AMERICAN DISCONTENTMENT

And may I say–the whole world

Let me tell you like it is.  Our world is falling apart—it is hard to believe some of the things we see and hear on social media, radio, television, the internet!

Here are a couple recent headlines:

I wrote these headlines down during the last few weeks—there could be many more!  Do any of them shock you—or alarm you?  I was preparing to include all of this for an upcoming podcast episode—and then I received an article by Sarah Wagner, dated 5/3/24, and published by American Faith.  Wow—it hit home—the title “American Discontentment Linked to Lack of Biblical Worldview”.

Here are some highlights from that article.  The article is based on researcher George Barna’s report titled “American Worldview Inventory 2024”.

Two quotes from Barna:

“The social problems troubling the majority of Americans are likely a symptom of the unprecedented change in worldview preferences, in which longstanding biblical beliefs are being discarded in favor of a wide range of alternative views”.

“American adults are increasingly embracing a host of unbiblical perspectives and this profound shift in beliefs is causing many of the disturbing social patterns and lifestyles responsible for the deterioration of our society and leading to the overwhelming level of national dissatisfaction”.

Did you catch what Barna said—Americans are discarding longstanding biblical beliefs.  NOT GOOD!

Does that hit home?  Here are some alarming stats from Gallup:

66% of Americans call themselves Christian—only 4% have a biblical worldview.

30% of American adults attended religious services between 2021 to 2023.

The majority of U.S. adults (56%) seldom or never attend church services.

Let’s cut to the chase—who is behind all of this confusion, turmoil, unbelief and discontentment?  I have the answer.

It is SATAN!  Satan is a spirit—a fallen cherub—a deceiver—the father of lies—and the “prince of this world”.  Satan is real!

Proof—from the Bible.  1 John 5:19 “We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one (Satan)”.

Another proof, 2 Corinthians 4:4 “The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God”.

So why the discontentment—again the Bible has the answer.

1 John 2:16 “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—come not from the Father but from the world (Satan)”.

And here is what happens when we discard or ignore God’s Word.  Romans 1:28 “Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done”.

Be honest—are you filled with discontentment brought on by Satan?  Or are you filled with contentment provided by God through the Holy Spirit?

Rest assured—God is in control and we are seeing His plan unfold before our eyes.  God has given Satan limited power and freedom at this time—but not for long!  I pray that you know God personally through His Son, Jesus, and that you will receive contentment through the Holy Spirit.  AMEN!
